Happy Weekend
First things first: today marks a truly magnificent day for the world. It was the day my Marm was born. She’s not only a blessing to me, but a blessing to this entire Earth. You guys just haven’t realized it yet.
Sheesh she’s a looker, ain’t she? Happy birthday, Mom – I love you.
Now, if you haven’t had the chance to do so, please visit my Piece of Cake post (here) and vote on what type of cake I should make for our Housewarming Party!
Speaking of the party, I’ve been running around like a chicken without its head for over a week now trying to get everything perfect decent. I’ve come to the realization that I won’t be able to get everything done in 5 days, but I’m willing to work hard to get some of it off my list.
What does that consist of you ask (ok, you probably didn’t ask but I’m going to tell you anyways): finishing the wall and putting in new flooring in our bedroom, moving our furniture back in, painting the 2 guest rooms, painting the outside of the house, finding a sleeper sofa, possibly finding and installing a shelving unit for the living room… ok.
Let’s be real here, I’m probably only going to get our room and the 2 rooms painted by next Saturday. I may be a worker bee and all, but I’m no Superwoman.
I hope your weekend is as productive, albeit more fun, than mine!
Doggone Good
After discovering mounds of bugs in our master bedroom, our General Contractor advised us to see “The Bug Man” for some real-deal pest control stuff. Considering that we basically live in the boondocks, any drive in to the city is pretty much an all-day event.
We decided to make the most of this ‘chore,’ and stopped at the world-famous Mel’s Hot Dogs. Now, sadly I just recently learned about this mecca of hot dog gloriousness, so my college days now appear juvenile and unfulfilled (since USF is about 1 block away). I’m still learning to cope.
Even from the parking lot, Mel’s Hot Dogs brings you back to the good ol’ days. I wasn’t around back then, but I hear they were pretty swell.
This place reminds me of my very first internship in college. I was interning at a post-production recording company in Chicago, and one day my boss took us interns to a Chicago White Sox game. I had been living there for about 2 weeks, and still had yet to experience the world-famous Chicago-style dog.
The first bite, I was hooked. I mean, celery salt? Never had I ever thought I’d like some strange concoction like this.
Mel’s has a menu about 5 feet long full of hot dogs. And a chicken sandwich here and there. It’s a Tampa pastime favorite that will never die. It brings me back to college, Chicago, and one of the best experiences of my life.

Piece of Cake
I mentioned in an earlier post that we are finally opening our doors for a Housewarming Party. We’ve decided to get food catered from local restaurants because our guest list is topping 40 and I don’t have the time, energy or patience to cook for that many people!
To cut costs a little (hello, we just bought a house – so we’re beyond broke), we asked friends and family to bring an appetizer, side dish or dessert. What they don’t know is that I was tossing around the idea of having our guests judge the plates, with the winning dish receiving a prize! (To my friends and family that read this blog – act surprised).
In true celebratory fashion (and the fact that I believe every event deserves it), I want to make a delicious cake for all to enjoy. And, I want to blow out candles. I know it’s not a birthday, but it’s the start of our new life together in the house. Make sense? Ok, no?
Oh well – still doing it.
I’m having a hard time deciding which recipe to go with – so I figured I’d ask my fellow salted chocoholics!

Swept Away
Although it’s still Spring, it’s becoming increasingly hot and humid here in Florida. There are some days I can’t stand to leave the house. And it’s only May. Being that I live in Florida and there’s no escaping the humidity, us girls have to get a little creative with our hair. Sure, ponytails do the trick, but they can get old quick. And the tomboyish hairstlye hardly goes with everything.
Enter the side-swept messy chignon. Ahh, it’s like a breath of freah air for tropic-dwelling girls.
Easy, breezy and effortlessly beautiful…
Adding accessories can really dress it up – I’m saying “I do” to this one…

Sexy, classic, chic…
Do you have any other hairstyles you turn to when the heat is on?
Happy Weekend
This week has been sort of crazy. You know, we kind of had to take out a portion out of our bedroom wall. Living in the guest bedroom has it’s perks – we just haven’t figured them out yet. I just hope this is all done before our Housewarming Party. Yep, we finally feel good enough to show off the house. Which, has kind of made everything that much more stressful.
Even though we just came back from vacation, I could use a break. So this weekend I’m going to take it easy. No work for 2 whole days. Let’s see how much I can stand it.

Have a great weekend!
