Holy Honeysuckle

February 8, 2011

In case you haven’t heard, Honeysuckle was recently named the Pantone 2011 Color of the Year.

***

What a beautiful, vibrant color! Something I can easily see myself wearing… on my nails.

The color is cute, but I’m not sure how much I can actually incorporate it into my everyday attire (or home, for that matter).

I think I need some help here. Excuse me while I channel my inner Barbie…

Ok, no.

I shudder to think what I might look like in those heels, and pants, with that… shirt.

Luckily, I did discover some items that will ease me in to this Honeysuckle-Must-Have-Color-Thing.

This bracelet is cute and comfortably Honeysuckle-ish. I can dig it.

 ***

And this dress! I would totally wear it on a spring date.

***

I can even see some Honeysuckle decor sprinkled throughout my home…

***

Maybe. We’ll see about that one.

So, what do you think  – did Pantone get it right?

Tomorrow, I’ll post MY pick for the 2011 color of the year.

So Good Sopapilla

February 7, 2011

I hope everyone’s weekend was a great one. I managed to get 2 of my 3 plans completed – the 1 incomplete task being that I never got around to reading my book. There was a Real Housewives marathon on t.v., and I couldn’t pull myself away.

I hate love when that happens.

I made the Pizza Dip – but after tasting it, I felt it was missing something. Perhaps it was the pizza dough? Last night’s consesus was split – half the people loved it, and the other half (including myself) considered it to be just “ok”. I won’t be making it again – I think a pizza and a dip would do just fine by themselves.

However, there was a dish my friend, Lisa, made that was out-of-this-world delicious: Cheesecake Sopapilla Bars.

I literally stood by the tray the entire night, just so I could make sure I got a little taste every hour or so.

Lisa was kind enough to share her recipe with me, and I had to share with you. This dessert is just that darn good…

INGREDIENTS:

2 (8oz) pkg cream cheese

1 1/4 sticks butter (10tbsp) or margarine, softened, divided

1 1/2 cups sugar divided

2 tsp vanilla extract, divided

2 (8oz) pkg refrigerated crescent rolls

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

DIRECTIONS:

Preheat oven 350 degrees.  Coat 13×9 baking pan with nonstick cooking spray, set aside.  Combine cream cheese and 4 tablespoons butter in large bowl; beat at medium speed with mixer until mixture is creamy.  Gradually beat in 1 cup sugar.  Beat in 1 teaspoon vanilla.  Unroll 1 package crescent rolls; place in bottom of prepared pan (do not separate rolls at perforations.)  Press dough to stretch to edges of pan, pressing to seal perforations.  Spread cream cheese mixture in even layer over dough.

Unroll remaining package crescent rolls on lightly floured surface; shape into 13×8 inch rectangle, pressing dough to seal perforations.  Position dough on top of cream cheese mixture.  IN small saucepan, melt remaining 6 tablespoons butter; stir in remaining 1/2 cup sugar, remaining 1 teaspoon vanilla, and cinnamon.  Spread mixture evenly over dough.

Bake 30 minutes or until cheesecake is slightly puffed and top is golden brown.  Cool before cutting into squares.

WARNING: this Sopapilla may cause you to become unsocial-able at a party. Just sayin’…

Happy Weekend

February 4, 2011

This weekend, I plan to relax and give myself much-needed me time. Well, at least on Saturday – since the ManFriend and I will celebrate Super Bowl Sunday. I can never pass up good beer, good food and great friends.

I’ve decided to give myself a mani/pedi with this color, Essie’s Chinchilly

I’m going to attempt to finish at least 2 chapters in the book I’ve been reading, The Gorgeously Green Diet

And for Super Sunday, I’m planning to make this dip

What are you doing this weekend?

A Sterling Steal

February 3, 2011

When I saw these Twist Knot earrings – I had to get them…

***

… And then I saw the price.

Not overly expensive at $150, but being the super-shopper that I strive to be – I searched for more wallet-friendly, yet equally beautiful, pair.

And then I found these babies…

***

$29.99! Is this for reals?!

I stared wide-eyed into the screen, I could barely swallow my Skinny Vanilla Latte, tears started to well up in my eyes, and I could feel my ears itching to wear them. At that price, I don’t know any girl that could resist.

This immediately made me think: this would be a terrific Valentine’s gift. Not too expensive, not too flashy, and we all know jewelry is the second-best gift next to salted chocolate. :)

So if you know your man is struggling with the gifting concept of V-Day, feel free to drop him a link directly back to this post. He’ll be happy you made it easy on him, and you’ll be getting what you want.

What a wonderful world, indeed.
