Grey or Gray?
Much to my mother’s dismay, I’ve decided to go with grey (or is it gray?) for the paint color of choice. (Sorry Marm!) It can actually be quite charming and cozy, if done correctly. We’ll see if I can pull that off.
Here are the samples I brought home. I’m going to test all seven, that’s right seven, in each room. And just to be sure, I’ll take a quick peek every so often – since paint can look different during certain times and lights…
Option 1: Intellectual
Option 2: Ashes
Option 3: Elephant Skin
Option 4: Perfect Taupe
Option 5: Suede Gray
Option 6: Fashion Gray
Option 7: Vintage Linen (I was thinking of using this for the trim and baseboards – something a little different from plain ol’ painter’s white)
And if you couldn’t tell, it’s Behr paint. I hear it’s good stuff. Plus, it’s a 2-in-1, meaning I don’t have to prime first!
Good times.
Decision day is Friday, and painting is all weekend. Possible feeling of remorse is scheduled for Monday.
What do you think? Yay or Nay on the Gray (or Grey)?
Reader Request: Denim Flats
Spring fashion is popping up in the local stores, and I’m seeing a lot of denim. Elle lists minimalist blues, tough chic, and classic cool as the go-to staples that should be in every girl’s closet for the upcoming season.
My friend, Johanna, recently emailed me looking for a more affordable option for the Kate Spade “Elaina” Denim Flats, currently $225…
And while I couldn’t find an exact match (at least not as exact as the Alex Wedge post), I did find some very cute and affordable options for her to choose from…
Walnut Denim Ballet Flats – $37.95
Mossimo Vontricia Zipper Denim Flats – $24.99
All of these flats are so versatile, you can easily wear them from day-to-night. Pair them with a cute eyelet dress during the day, and skinny pants and a flowy top at night for an effortless, yet chic look.
Look for Less: Crystal Table Lamp
Apparently I picked the perfect weekend to close on a house and shop – the President’s Day sales were off the hook! Almost as good as Black Friday… almost…
It’s a little overwhelming since we have NOTHING, but starting from scratch has it’s benefits:
- lots and lots of shopping
- it gives me an excuse to spend a stupid amount of money in 2 days (even though, I had a slight panic attack when my card didn’t work one time – it was probably tired, too!) and,
- it’ll let me flex my decorating muscles – they’ve been in hibernation for the past oh …. year…
Well, on to my fab find! We purchased all of the big furniture items on Friday, so on Sunday I started to focus on the details. The nitty-gritty, if you will.
For our bedroom, I saw this Crystal Ball Table Lamp and I thought, “Classy, different, and the ManFriend should like it (too bad if he doesn’t – justtt kiddinnn’).”
Unfortunately, I can’t justify spending $270 for one lamp since, you know, we need that money for a bed. No big deal.
But I did find this one online, not bad at $80…
But, and this is a large but, I wanted to see if I could save even more. And, I did. What of it. :)
I bought this same exact lamp for $40 and the same exact lamp shade for $15 at Tarjay (that’s Target, in case you haven’t heard this term of endearment from other fashionistas).
$55 each – that’s a savings of over $200! Glorious!
Unfortunately, Tarjay is being a little sneaky and not selling the product online – or at least that I can tell. So, you’re just going to have to take my word for it, ya hear?
They do have this one – but for some reason they have it at $70 with a darker shade. Madness, I say!
Bonus: ManFriend digs the lamps. I win!
Happ(iest) Weekend
Ever. Well, I mean I’m pretty sure it will be. The only exception is that most of Saturday will be spent doing the non-glamourous-new-home-things: cleaning, scrubbing, raking, trimming. On Sunday, the shopping will once again commence – I think I can handle that.
Sorry I missed posting yesterday – I was buying a couch and a dining table! They come in 2 weeks – so if I have to wait, well then you do too! :)
As promised, here are some pictures from the big closing day…
The house, with a jungle of a lawn (since it sat for 8 months)…
Our white picket fence…
MY closet – shoe organizers, GLORIOUS shoe organizers…
Our Beagle, Moosehead (her real name is Brandi, but she looks like a Moose to me), scoping out the patio – I’m pretty sure she’s trying to determine the best place for optimal sunning….
Well, you know what I’ll be doing this weekend. What about you?
{These pictures were taken by me. If you’d like to use any of these wonderful images, please link back to my site for credit. I appreciate it!}
A Dream Come True
It’s finally happening. We can now claim we live the American Dream…
We close on our house today!
After 2 years of searching, waiting, excitement, heartbreak, impatience, patience, tears, headaches, and 4 houses that have fallen through – our dream is now becoming a reality.
I’ll post our post-closing pictures tomorrow – only the good ones, as I don’t want to bore you to tears – since we’ll be having a Celebration dinner with lots of happy people (including ManFriend’s parents – who have graciously let us stay in their house for almost a year!), lots of vino and lots of cheers-ing.
It’s been a crazy journey – and I’m glad it’s over.
Now… on to paint swatches!
